Batata Masala Balls

Batata Masala Balls is a different menu option for Upvaas/Fasting snacks. I had prepared this dish on trial basis and it turned out to be a tasty one. It goes well with green coconut chilly chutney or sweet curd or lassi. This dish is very quick to prepare as most of the ingredients are available at home.

Recently, I had prepared this dish on Anvat Swad show which was telecast on Doodarshan Sahyadri on 12 August 2019.

Preparation Time –  20 mins

Cook Time – 15 mins

  1. First boil potato and sweet potato in a pressure cook and cool it down.
  1. After cooling, peel potato and sweet potato, then smash all together in a bowl.
  1. Add rajgira flour in a above potato and sweet potato mixture. Add salt to taste and mix it well.
  1. Now knead the mixture carefully while kneading, do not add water. Keep the dough aside for about 10 minutes.
  1. In a grinder/mixer/blender, add chilly, ginger and coriander leaves. cumin seeds, coconut, coarsely crushed peanut and salt to taste.
  1. Make a thick paste of above ingredients and keep the paste aside.
  1. Take the lemon size dough of potato, rajgira mixture and apply some oil and use hand finger to roll the dough in round shape.
  1. Fill the masala mixture in centre of the roll of potato dough and close the roll properly. Be careful while closing, cover may crack and masala will come out.
  2. Make small round shape balls or any other shape of all the mixture.
  3. Heat the oil in pan on low flame gas. Now keep the flame medium and fry these Batata Masala Balls from both the sides till it turns reddish.
  4. Ready to serve with Coconut chutney or Curd

Tips / suggestions:

  • Add boiled peanut is optional.
  • Add ingredients like cumin and coriander powder instead of seeds.
