A surprise call from Doordarshan Sahyadri

This year, the month of Shravan brought one of the happiest moments in my life as I got a surprise call to participate in Anvat Swad, a cookery show on Doordarshan Sahyadri channel. It was a Shravan Special Episode where I had to prepare fasting/upvas dishes. I had to submit 4-5 recipes out of which two were to be finalised. After lot of telephonic discussion with the episode producer, Potato Masala Balls and Bharleli Keli recipes were finalised.

I was allotted a morning slot for shooting on 30th July 2019 in one of the studios located in Doordarshan Sahyadri, Worli. It was raining heavily on that day and I started the journey from Kalyan along with my mother, hubby and son. I was supposed to reach at 10.30 am. However, due to heavy rains and traffic jam, we got stuck in Kalyan for almost an hour. I got tensed and started blaming the bad weather conditions.

After almost 3 hours of travel in the snail space moving Mumbai traffic, we reached around 12.00 noon. The entire team of Anvat Swad was ready and waiting for me. I felt bad even though, I had informed them about the heavy rains and traffic situation. Well, I quickly got ready and started arranging the ingredients with help of assistants on the set. Rasika Vengurlekar, the well known actress and host of this show arrived. She started chatting with me. Surprisingly, it was also her first show on Doordarshan too.

The producer briefed me about the do’s & don’t of the show. I prepared the Potato Masala Ball first and after a break, the Bharleli Keli dish was prepared. There were some retakes but it was nice to know and understand the minor mistakes. Rasika was friendly and helped in preparation of the dishes. In fact, the entire crew was friendly and energetic, right from the cameraman to the spotboy. There was also a young camerawoman who was shooting the entire episode from a particular angle.

It seemed that the preparation of both the dishes was well shot. I was happy to hear the claps at the end of the episode shooting. I took quick snaps with Rasika and the crew members before calling off a day. It was a great and a memorable experience to be part of Doordarshan’s cooking show. l have grown watching Doordarshan programs during my childhood. I had never thought that I would be in front of camera and that too in Doordarshan ☺ It’s just because of my love and passion for cooking.

I would like to thank the entire team of Anvat Swad and Doordarshan Sahyadri for giving me this opportunity to be part of their show. Special thanks to Rasika Vengurlekar for her wonderful anchoring and helping me during the show.

A Big Thanks to Shubhangi Aatya and Manohar Mama for recommending my name to Anvat Swad team after knowing my interest in cooking and watching my episode of Aamhi Saare Khavayye.

Great going 👏 👏 👏 Anvat Swad team 👍 👍 👍

Looking forward for more such wonderful experiences in life.
